Correct chip antenna performance flaw

Problem environment

The onboard chip antenna pads and traces dialectrically produce a resonance.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Populate the chip antenna AE5
  2. Attach a vector network analyser
  3. Measure the resonance frequency

Expected result

The chip antenna resonance frequency is 868 MHz.

Actual result

The chip antenna resonance frequency is off by a lot.

Workaround

Once the actual resonance frequency is determined, cut from the trace tail to adjust (increasing the frequency) towards the target frequency.

Alternative

Consider replacing the Johanson 0868AT43A0020E with a more expensive (dual band) Pulse Larsen W3320.

Severity level

This is low priority because project requirements do not mandate antenna calibration.
