Placer configuration is not optimal

Problem environment

Automated parts placing using vacuum nozzle mounted heads with vision can be expedited by optimising the configuration of tape reels and placement order.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Refer to the placement confguration (fabplace)
  2. Examine distance from one reel side to the other
  3. Locate conflicts causing excessive head movement

Expected result

The placement heads move in the most efficient manner when picking and placing parts.

Actual result

The placement heads move semi randomly, according to arbitrary reel number and value.

Severity level

This is low priority because project requirements do not mandate production cycles.

A recommended algorithm may prioritise reels with large quantity numbers (such as 100 nF decoupling capacitors) closer to the middle of the nearest (right facing in our case) side.
