Determine a battery backup use case

Problem environment

Reference designs for SAMR34 based devices include a coin cell battery connected to PB03, which seems to be unable to power the device. It is considered a battery backup.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Create a Microchip account
  2. Download SAMR34 IC Reference Design Package
  3. Observe the printed schematic
  4. Compare battery backup circuits

Expected result

The battery backup reference circuit matches our design (connected to PB3) and describes the method of use.

Actual result

There is little information regarding a use case for the battery circuit.

Workaround

Avoid using the battery for operation and assume it keeps MCU values stored after power is lost.

Severity level

This is low priority because project requirements do not include a battery circuit.
